Saving Lives Spay By Spay

This is the clever slogan for The Spayed Club, whose mission is to help reduce animal overpopulation in the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond. TSC (The Spayed Club, www.thespayedclub.com) is a non profit organization which relies on volunteers and donations.

This past Saturday, October 9, 2004, TSC held their 21st Annual Dog Walk in the Valley Forge National Park. The weather was overcast, but the feelings of compassion and caring shined through! The walk itself was a three mile path through the woods and along the Schuylkill River. Along the way you could find water bowls for your four legged buddies if they needed a drink. The path led you back to the main area where you could find fun vendors displaying their crafts.

Just about everywhere you looked you could find friendly TSC volunteers with name tags who were there to help you enjoy the day's events. You didn't need to participate in the walk, however, to make a donation to the cause. “We get our donations in a variety of ways,” explains Janet Cooper, a volunteer for the TSC for approximately 3 years, “but the Dog walk is our largest fund raiser event”. Janet further explained how TSC helps people get in contact with veterinarians who participate in the low cost program. “The program is for anyone who wants to get their dog or cat spayed or neutered. Someone may have just purchased an animal, hopefully from a rescue or shelter,” Janet says this with a wink and a smile, “and they can contact TSC and a volunteer will be there to assist them though the process.” The Spayed Club will also help people with feral cats and stray dogs.

Overpopulation is not an untreatable problem. With organizations like The Spayed Club everyone can help to stop unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, most of which are doomed for euthanasia in a shelter. Donating can be as easy as shopping online! Go to www.IGIVE.com/TSC and sign up as a member. Be sure to use The Spayed Clubs Cause #20965, and shop the malls at IGive. You can find hundreds of brand names like, Gap, Eddie Bauer, PetSmart, LLBean, J Crew, Barnes & Noble and many more! Spend generously, because when you shop at the IGive Mall, 25% of your purchase automatically goes the The Spay Club organization. How easy is that? Think of how wonderful it would feel to get your Christmas shopping done while helping a worthy cause.

Please visit The Spayed Club website at, www.thespayedclub.com, to find out more ways you can help. Better yet, contact the wonderful volunteers at The Spayed Club to find out how they can help you!
