America's Family Pet Expo Promotes Responsible Pet Care

America's Family Pet Expo continued to fulfilled its mission to promote responsible pet care when the event was presented at Fairplex in Pomona, California June 24, 25, and 26.
The giant nonprofit animal education and entertainment festival scheduled a vast array of workshops, demonstrations, and how-to sessions conducted by animal experts on a broad range of animal care topics for over 25,000 in attendance at the Pet Expo.
“Our mission is to educate as many people as possible on the proper selection, care and training of all types of companion animals. We want people to have as much information as possible ahead of the pet selection process so they understand the commitment of time and money necessary to keep a pet healthy, happy and safe,” said Doug Poindexter, executive vice president of World Wide Pet Industry Association, Inc. of Arcadia, California.
“Once a pet is taken into a home as a new family member, we want to be sure those entrusted with the pet's well-being have all the necessary skills to care for and train the pet. It then is a win, win situation for both the pet and the family,” Poindexter went on to say.
Educational presentations included: Don't Get Rid of Your Cat; Dog Grooming Demonstrations; Kids and Dogs - How to Keep Safe; Choosing the Right Pet Rat; Proper Enclosure for Your Reptile; Thinking About Adopting From a Rescue?; Clicking with Your Dog: An Introduction to Clicker Training; Dog Cart Driving Demonstrations; Dog Grooming Made Easy for Kids; It's a Pig's Life; Parrot Nutrition; Dog Obedience Training; Answering Your Rabbit Questions; Cichlid Habitats; Come Meet the Birds; Enriching the Life of the Ferret; Bunny Grooming Basics; Solutions to Dog Training Problems; Guinea Pig Nutrition; Living with Handicapped Birds; What Animals Can Teach Us; Is Your Cat an Interior Decorator; Getting to Know Your Basset Hound; Parade of Dog Breeds; Llama Performance Demos; Pet CPR; California Desert Tortoise; Living with Hamsters; Pampering Your Persian; Laying a Good Training Foundation for Your Dog/Puppy; Born to be Wild and Why; How to Keep Your Rats Happy; Teaching Other Animals to Get Along with Your Bird; Service Dog Demonstration; Getting to Know Reptiles; The Truth about Living with and Caring for Pet Birds; and Ask the Vet -- Cat Care.
The public also learned about pets while attending numerous animal stage shows and competitions at America's Family Pet Expo. These included Valentines Performing Pigs, Exotic Bird Show, Rockets K-9 Comets, Dog Agility Racing Team, International Cat Agility Tournament, Splash Dogs and Friskies for More Experience.
In addition, petting and learning opportunities flourished at All God's Creatures Petting Zoo and at scores of animal exhibits provided by hobbyists, clubs and organizations..
The Pet Expo's Pet Adoption Fair hosted 26 adoption agencies seeking homes for dogs, cats, birds, rats and guinea pigs. A total of 267 pets were adopted.
Valuable information was also provided by vendors selling pet products. Manufacturers and retailers shared their knowledge on the thousands of products available for sale at the Pet Expo that aid in pet safety, health and nutrition, exercise, mental and emotional well-being, and training.
