Doggle Your Dog

Doggles® began one day after Roni Di Lullo, president and creator of Doggles®, took her dog Midknight to a dog park in San Jose. Working as a computer consultant, Roni and her husband Ken would take their dog Midknight for walks and to play in the dog park. He would often squint from the sun, and Roni felt it wasn't fair that her and Ken were both wearing sunglasses and Midknight had nothing to protect his eyes. So Roni told Ken she was going to make some goggle sunglasses for Midknight, and the rest is history.
After making the Doggles® for Midknight, people would ask Roni everywhere she went where she got them. These numerous requests from other dog owners led Roni to spending her evenings making Doggles® in her kitchen. After a few years and a feature in Daily Candy Magazine, Roni got a phone call from CNN. After the CNN feature Doggles® won third place at a major pet products trade show in 2001. Doggles® has since taken off with features on The Today Show, The View, People Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, and Country Living Magazine to name a few. Doggles® were also requested by the ASPCA for use by the 9/11 search and rescue dogs, and Roni was more than happy to donate them.
All this attention has helped fuel tremendous growth for the company. Doggles'® sales doubled every year for the first six years, and have since increased approximately 33 percent each year. Sales for 2004 are projected to be $1.5 million.
Why Doggles?
Doggles® are protective eyewear for dogs. Unlike ordinary sunglasses for dogs, Doggles® actually protect dog's eyes from foreign objects, wind, and UV light.
They are modeled after sports goggles, with currently 2 styles, fitting dogs 3 pounds and up. All models have flexible, snug-fitting frames, which have foam padding against the face; polycarbonate (shatterproof) and anti-fog lenses; and adjustable elastic head and chin straps to keep the Doggles securely on the dog.
For dogs with the increasingly common eye disease, Pannus, Doggles are proving themselves very useful. It is well known that dogs with Pannus should stay out of direct sun and get protection from UV light. Doggles are a great alternative for those dogs that can't stay inside during the day.
Other Doggles Products
Doggles® has several new products set to rollout over the next year. Included in those products are matching human sunglasses and K9 Optix™ glasses that are pink with a rhinestone heart in the corner and silver straps, Snoopy Doggles®, Lilac colored Doggles® with flowers on the side, three new K9 Optix™ styles with new straps, a new clothing line featuring hats and shirts for pets, and Elvis Hound Dog Doggles®.
All of Doggles'® products are driven by two things. First and foremost, they must be functional. “We want our products to serve a purpose above anything else,” Di Lullo said. “Once we are certain the product is functional, we like to make it fashionable.”
Doggles'® Mission
Doggles'® mission is -- Protecting the world, one dog at a time. “With products like Doggles® it is really easy to meet our goal,” Di Lullo said.

I invented Pet Safety Goggles in 1982 in Florida. I tried to have it patented, but was unable to due to costs. This idea was also published with an invention company that did nothing but take my money. I can't help but think that Roni Di Lullo stole this invention from me, since everywhere that I went, people would take pictures of my dog wearing the safety goggles!
