Take The HEART Pledge And Help Iams Friends for Life Enhance The Lives of Homeless Dogs And Cats

Iams Dog and Cat Food is asking pet owners to enhance the lives of dogs and cats this Valentine's Day by taking the HEART Pledge for their own pets and donating to a worthy cause, the Iams Friends for Life Fund for orphaned pets. The HEART Pledge is intended to raise awareness about importance of heart health in dogs and cats. The Iams Friends for Life Fund was created to enhance the lives of companion animals by benefiting pet causes including homelessness. Both provide ways to enhance the lives of companion animals.

* The HEART Pledge for your pet:

To help my pet have a happy and heart-healthy life, I'm taking the HEART
Pledge. I promise to provide:
H = Heart-healthy diet
E = Exercise
A = Annual vet visits
R = Regular heartworm treatments
T = Time together

Heart-healthy nutrition is a great first step in prolonging the life of your pet. Pet owners want to look for a diet that supports a strong, healthy heart with seven essential nutrients: Amino acids (from select animal protein), Fatty acids, Vitamin E, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, and Calcium. Each of these essential nutrients has a vital supporting role in your pet's heart health.

* The Iams Friends for Life Fund for orphaned pets:

- Iams Friends for Life Fund Facts:

* Launched in September of 2005

* 100 percent of all donations will go directly to organizations that address companion animal homelessness

* Distribution of funds to organizations in need is guided by an advisory group of leading welfare organizations

* Supported by a Public Service Announcement featuring Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton

* Nearly $60,000 has already been rewarded to seven organizations that helped care for animals displaced or left homeless by hurricanes Katrina and Rita

"The HEART Pledge and The Iams Friends for Life Fund both help bring people and pets together for a lifetime of health, happiness, and love," said Mike Arms, President of Helen Woodward Animal Center and member of the shelter advisory board. "Think of our companion animals and give them a Valentine."
