PETsHOTEL Success Shows Demand for Pet Daycare Exists Among Pet Parents

PHOENIX, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 11/22/2004 -- Adding to its pet services resume, PETsMART (NASDAQ: PETM) is launching a childcare-like concept called Doggie Day Camp, which gives dogs a safe, fun way to socialize, exercise and play under the supervision of PETsMART's safety-certified pet care specialists. Pet parents can drop their four-legged family members off at Doggie Day Camp in the morning for a day of supervised, worry-free play with other dogs.

The company began testing the service this month in a 2,400-square-foot stand-alone facility at its Pasadena, Calif. store. The facility has separate rooms that can accommodate supervised group play for dogs, a check-in and reception desk, dedicated relief areas and even space for "time outs."

"Pet parents have the same concerns as other parents about providing for their dogs," said David Lenhardt, PETsMART's senior vice president of services. "Doggie Day Camp provides a safe, fun and alternative solution for pet parents who want to make sure their dogs are well socialized and cared for during the day. It's one more way we can provide total lifetime care for pets."

Lenhardt said feedback from pet parents who use Doggie Day Camp will play a big role in shaping and perfecting the service. "The size and configuration of our stores gives us tremendous flexibility in providing both products and services under one roof," he said.

Doggie Day Camp stemmed from PETsMART's PETsHOTEL day and overnight care concept, which had been successfully tested in 14 stores until October when the company announced the roll out of PETsHOTELs company-wide. "Our expertise and depth of experience in pet services is unmatched in the industry. We have high hopes for Doggie Day Camp," Lenhardt said.

In addition to the PETsHOTELs for overnight and extended stays for cats and dogs, PETsMART offers an unparalleled range of pet products and services including grooming and training. This year, PETsMART's accredited pet instructors will teach nearly 300,000 dogs good behavior skills and more than 5.4 million dogs will be groomed in PETsMART salons by certified groomers.

The Doggie Day Camp is located at the Pasadena PETsMART store, 3347 E. Foothill Boulevard, and operates seven days a week.

PETsMART, Inc. (NASDAQ: PETM) is the largest specialty retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets.
