DOG FANCY Magazine Crowns San Diego, California 'DogTown USA 2007'

This year DOG FANCY, the world's leading canine magazine, has named San Diego, California as the 2007 winner of DogTown USA -- the national competition in which its readers nominate America's most dog-friendly city. After digging high and low, reading all submitted entries carefully, and researching facts and figures, the editors made their final decision to award the title to San Diego.
"Every year I look forward to discovering what city will be DogTown USA," said Susan Chaney, editor of DOG FANCY. "I can't imagine any dog who wouldn't be happy to live in San Diego."
The eight runners-up were Austin, Texas; Fort Collins, Colo.; Madison, Wis.; Sanford, Fla.; Long Beach, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Carmel, Calif. The winner and runners-up will be profiled and presented in the October issue of DOG FANCY, on sale on newsstands starting September 25th.
Being named DogTown USA is no small feat. The ideal criteria for the winner includes the presence of dog-friendly activities, restaurants and businesses, dog parks or other off-leash areas, critical-care facilities, medical specialists, city-sponsored spay/neuter drives, pro-dog legislation, low surrender rates, high preventative care participation and a good vet-pet ratio.
