European Pet Passports

European Union pet owners must comply with new EU pet passports by October 1st, 2004. the new passports are required before any animal enters into an EU member state. Ireland, Sweeden, United Kingdom and Malta are exempt as they have stricter regulations.
One reason for the new passport is to provide proof that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies. It also gives detalis of of the pet's tapeworm and tick treatment. The pet's name, birth date, breed, coat description and other information. Photographs are optional. Pet passports are available from vets across the EU.
Over the next 8 years micro-chipping will be phased in. During this time pets can be tattooed with their identification.
The new passport was launched in July, but owners were given until the end of September to comply. The new passport replaces 25 national ones.
