World's Largest Pet Adoption Drive - Iams Home 4 the Holidays - Exceeds Goal and Finds Homes for Nearly 500,000 Orphaned Animals

Late last month, Iams Home 4 the Holidays (IH4TH) concluded the ninth year of its successful pet adoption campaign, surpassing the goal of 415,000 pet adoptions and finding homes for nearly 500,000 cats, dogs and other animals. IH4TH, which kicked off on Nov. 5, 2007 and ran through Jan. 3, is the world's largest pet adoption drive, with more than 2,600 participating animal shelters and rescue organizations from 16 countries.

"Working to reduce the high number of pet orphans around the world is so important to all of us at Iams, as well as our partners at Helen Woodward Animal Center," said Kris Parlett, of Iams Dog and Cat Foods. "We're just as dedicated today as we were nine years ago about spreading the word about the importance of pet adoption, getting animals out of the shelters and into happy homes and significantly reducing the orphaned pet population."

IH4TH Adoption Totals: Doggone Good

Thousands of animals found loving homes this holiday season through the IH4TH campaign, with dogs being adopted most often, followed by cats and then other animals. Specific totals included: 51 percent of adoptions were dogs, 45 percent were cats and 4 percent included rabbits, reptiles, birds, ferrets and other pets.

"When we started this pet adoption drive in 1999, we had no idea it would grow to be the success it has so quickly," said Mike Arms, president and executive director of Helen Woodward Animal Center and founder of Home 4 the Holidays. "It's exciting that every year more participating animal organizations join our fight and most importantly, more and more pets find happy and loving homes."

The 10th anniversary of IH4TH will kick off later this year. To learn more about the program or to find a participating animal shelter, call (800) 421-6456 or visit http://www.iamshome4theholidays.org.
