In 1995, Pet Adoptathon began as a North Shore Animal League adoption weekend, with the goal of finding homes for each and every dog and cat at the Animal League. That weekend, over 500 needy pets found loving homes. Encouraged by the success, the Animal League went on to invite shelters world-wide to participate in Pet Adoptathon. Last year, over 2,000 shelters participated, including organizations in all fifty states and over 23 countries world-wide, with at least one shelter in each time zone. To date, Pet Adoptathon has fostered over 250,000 loving adoptions world-wide.
Pet Adoptathon, a program of North Shore Animal League America, is sponsored by Purina(R), Bayer Healthcare (R) LLC Animal Health Division, and Fort Dodge Animal Health(R).
